Kelly Curbside Pickup

Effective April 20th 2021 the Kelly Library’s Curbside Pickup Service will be suspended per public health guidelines. Please check this site for future updates as they are available. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Placing a request

The Kelly Library offers a Curbside Pickup Service for print books and other materials not available electronically through the HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service. This service is available for current University of Toronto students, faculty, staff, and USMC Extramural Readers. 

  • Find your item(s) by using LibrarySearch
  • Click the GET IT link  in each item’s catalogue record and follow the prompts to request. If you are not yet signed into LibrarySearch, you’ll need to enter your UTORid to request it. 
  • If the item comes up as a HathiTrust item, you will not be able to request it for curbside pick up.
  • You will receive an automated email message to acknowledge receipt of your request.
  • You will receive an email when your item is ready for pickup at the Kelly Library. Please read your pickup notice carefully for details about how to pickup your item(s).

Pickup procedures

Items will be held at the Kelly Library for pick up for 14 days from the time you were sent your email pickup notice. Please contact us if you require an extension to this deadline. Due dates for all Curbside Pickup items are extended to the end of September 2021 OR whenever your library privileges expire, whichever comes first. Items cannot be renewed. See our Services page for more information on loans.

  • Ensure that you have your TCard or other photo ID, and a copy of the pick-up confirmation email before arriving at the Kelly Library. If you are collecting material for another person, please have their TCard, your photo ID, and a copy of the pick-up confirmation email.
  • When you arrive at the Kelly Library you will see a large sign to the right of our entrance indicating where items can be picked-up. Please approach this sign and follow the instructions posted on the window nearby.
  • Please show your TCard to the staff member and maintain physical distancing if other patrons are present.
  • The staff member will retrieve your item(s) and place them on the table outside. Please wait for the staff member to re-enter the building before removing your item(s) from the table.

Curbside Pickup FAQs

No. Patrons and non-library staff are not permitted to enter the building.

Lead times will vary depending on volume and staff availability. Patrons will receive a notice when items are ready with instructions along with our opening days and hours.

No. We cannot arrange for pickups on statutory holidays or weekends.

Currently, we are only offering curbside pickups for circulating items–mostly books and DVDs–from the John M. Kelly Library.

It depends. The limits on books through Kelly Curbside Pickup are the same that you have on your regular library account. See our Services page if you are unsure how many items you are permitted to loan.

Please return Kelly Library items through the Kelly Library book slot to ensure materials are available to the next patron in a timely manner.

Currently, due dates for items will be September 29th, 2021. Please continue to visit the Kelly Library website for updates on renewal extensions.

Submit a scan request to and we will try and locate the material for you. We can only provide a scan of one chapter/article/essay per source due to copyright limitations. If you need more than this, please submit a pickup request.

Materials uncollected after 14 days will be discharged and returned to the shelves.

If someone else is picking up item(s) for you, they must have your TCard, their photo ID, and a copy of an email from you authorizing them to collect material on your behalf. Please remember to note in your online request that another person will be picking up your items. You can do this in the notes field when making your request through the catalogue.

No. Unfortunately, library staff cannot accommodate in-person requests for this service. Please make sure you make your request using the UTL catalogue.

Once you’ve found a book to request in the UTL catalogue, click on “Get It” to place a curbside pickup request (if available). You’ll then be prompted to log in to LibrarySearch using your UTORid or barcode and pin. If you are unable to log in to LibrarySearch please email Library Help at with your student number to request new login credentials. You can then place your request, and when the book is ready for pickup, you can show government-issued photo ID instead of a TCard.
