Learning strategists work with you to identify your learning goals and develop strategies to make your learning more effective and enjoyable. Work with us to gain practical skills and greater confidence in your learning process.
All St. Mike’s students are able to use the learning strategy service.
What is an appointment like?
- You meet one-to-one with a learning strategist for 45 mins.
- Appointments can be either online or in-person at the John M. Kelly Library.
- We’ll start by asking you about your learning challenges and goals. We’ll then work collaboratively to find skills, strategies and resources that might support you. Often we’ll practice a new skill together and make a plan for next steps and any follow-up appointments or referrals that might be helpful.
What topics can we discuss?
Topics covered in learning strategy appointments may include:
- Navigating academic resources
- Developing organizational skills
- Reading critically and effectively
- Taking efficient and useful notes
- Studying and preparing for assessments
- Planning and prioritizing your time
- Building healthy and sustainable routines
- Setting goals and increasing motivation
- Minimizing distractions and improving focus
- Reducing procrastination and avoidance habits
- Managing academic stress and perfectionism
- Using AI as a learning tool
- Building confidence and joy in the learning process
